Joint Center Housing Studies fellowships and opportunities

The Joint Center for Housing Studies is offering a fellowship award for the 2001-02 academic year for doctoral candidates who are engaged in writing a dissertation on a housing-related topic consistent with the center's research agenda. The award will provide a stipend of $10,000. The Meyer Dissertation Fellowship is named in honor of John R. Meyer, professor of capital formation and economic growth emeritus, of the Kennedy School of Government.

Possible research areas include (but are not limited to): demographic influences on housing choices; econometric analysis of housing markets; urban homeownership; the evolving role of housing finance; and impacts of government regulation and taxation.

Applications for the Meyer Dissertation Fellowship are due by Monday, April 30.

In addition, the Joint Center for Housing Studies, along with the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation (NRC), is offering the 2001 Emerging Leaders in Community and Economic Development Summer Fellowship awards. Compensation includes $6,000 for 10 weeks of full-time work on an analytical project, plus travel and research expenses, enrollment in the NRC Training Institute in Chicago, and the opportunity to be published. The fellowship is open to first- and second-year students (who are not graduating) in law, business/economics, planning, or public policy/administration programs. Candidates should have a commitment to and knowledge of the community and economic development fields.

The application deadline for the Emerging Leaders Fellowship is Monday, April 9.

The Joint Center for Housing Studies is also offering two prizes for the best graduate-level research or design projects on housing. The competition is open to all University graduate students. The awards - one each for a design and research project - comes with a $100 cash prize, and the winning projects may be featured in a future newsletter.

The application deadline for the research and design award is Wednesday, May 9.
