Harvard women's hockey takes home all the beans, beating Northeastern in overtime, 4-3. For the third year in a row, the Crimson won the historic contest with an overtime goal by junior Jennifer Botterill.

For the third consecutive year, Jennifer Botterill '02 scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Harvard women's hockey team a victory over Northeastern in the Beanpot Tournament. This year, Botterill, shown in action Tuesday night at Boston College's Conte Forum, scored at the 6:35 mark of the extra period to give Harvard a 4-3 win and its third straight Beanpot Championship.

Two years ago in the first round of the tournament, Botterill scored in overtime to lift Harvard past Northeastern, 7-6. The Crimson then went on to shut out Boston College in the championship game. And last year, the Crimson earned their second consecutive Beanpot title against Northeastern when Botterill scored a goal after the end of regulation.

In the Championship game last Tuesday night against Northeastern, Botterill registered her astonishing third consecutive game-winning goal in Beanpot competition – good for a 4-3 win and Harvard's seventh Beanpot title.

Sophomore Karen Ingram opened the scoring for the Crimson with less than two minutes remaining in the first period. The Huskies responded with an offensive blitz, netting three goals in less then seven minutes.

A Harvard rally in the final period – which included goals by Botterill and senior Kiirsten Suurkask – deadlocked the game at 3, setting up the extra period and the customary heroics of Jennifer Botterill.

The Harvard women's hockey team (15-7-0, 6-2-0 Ivy) take on Ivy rival Dartmouth (19-1-1, 8-0 Ivy) this Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Bright Hockey Center.
