For almost 50 years, the organization now known as The Guidance Center Inc. has been helping Cambridge and Somerville children and families overcome the many hurdles and crises that can haunt those who are struggling to make ends meet. Now, the agency itself is facing its most profound challenge yet: meeting the needs of a growing constituent population at a time when government funding sources are not keeping up with the rate of inflation.
