William Alfred To Be Honored
Professor William Alfred, beloved by generations of Harvard artists, scholars and community members, died Thursday, May 20. In an attempt to perpetuate "the Professor's" indelible legacy of wisdom, teaching, and spirit among future Harvardians who share his love for literature and the arts, a group of former students are preparing to endow and charter the William Alfred Society for Arts and Letters, to be based in the Professor's residence at 31 Athens St. The society will offer intellectual nurturing and the creation of dialogue among aspiring writers and scholars, both by bringing together members of the Harvard community with visiting professionals, and through the maintenance of Alfred's home as a functional archival site for artists/scholars-in-residence.
Donations to the William Alfred Society can be submitted care of: Rex Dean, 315 Bacon St., Waltham, MA 02451.
