Visions of Cuba: From the Traditional to the Modern

Despite 40 years of tension between Cuba and the United States, gestures of reconciliation have been in evidence recently.

On Sunday, March 28, the Baltimore Orioles took the field in Havana against a Cuban squad, the first time since 1959 that a Major League team has played on Cuban soil. That same evening, Havana hosted a concert featuring American musical stars Bonnie Raitt and Jimmy Buffett.

Harvard, too, has had strong links to the island-nation, including the fascinating botanical gardens connection as well as more personal relationships, like that of GSD student Reinerio P. Faife in this week's accompanying Gazette articles. end
