Oxford/Kirkland Construction Update

Traffic and parking in the Oxford Street/Kirkland Street area has been significantly affected by work to repair the sewer line that runs underneath the streets. The work is part of a project that will take one to two months to complete. Harvard officials have been working with the City of Cambridge and private contractors to allow limited access to the area and to create alternate routes while work progresses.

Through traffic is prohibited on Oxford Street near the Science Center, but limited access is allowed for parking. With the exception of 11 parking spaces in the DEAS lot (adjacent to McKay), all parking lots bordered by Massachusetts Avenue and Oxford Street are open to parking permit holders. Traffic is controlled by personnel from the University Police Department.

Kirkland Street is closed from Irving Street to Sumner Road. From Irving Street to Beacon Street, Kirkland is open only to local traffic. Kirkland is now one way going west between Sumner and Quincy. Sumner Road is one way going north toward Kirkland, and Quincy Street is one way going south toward Cambridge Street.

A shuttle bus stop has also been moved because of the construction, from the Science Center to in front of Sparks House, directly across from Memorial Hall. The shuttle schedule has not been affected, however.

For updates, check the transportation advisory at the University Operations Services Web page, http://www.uos.harvard.edu, or call the Parking Office at 495-3772.
