Safety Reminders

The following is a list of safety services that are available to the University community:

  • Safe rides and walking escorts are available at all times when Harvard is in session, and are available to students and employees.
  • Shuttle Bus: Students and staff may use free shuttle buses to move around campus. Buses run from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. (7:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday).
  • Taxi Escort Service: From 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., students and staff may request free taxi service to points on the campuses.
  • Walking Escort Service: A walking escort service is available 24 hours per day. For points beyond campus, a security officer will provide an escort to an MBTA station or to a personšs car.
  • Police assistance phones, which connect the caller directly with a police dispatcher and automatically pinpoint the calleršs location, are located throughout the Harvard grounds and are easily identifiable by their blue lights. Additionally, more than 100 phones are placed outside various buildings, including all dormitories, and each features a button that connects the caller to the Harvard Police.
  • Whistles and portable alarms are available, free or at cost, from the Harvard Police.
  • 30,000 copies of the booklets "Playing It Safe" are printed and distributed to students and employees each year (see http://hupd.harvard.edu/).
