Radcliffe Enlists Prominent Lecturers for New Educational
Series
A new educational series featuring five prominent intellectuals addressing
today's most provocative social, political, and ethical issues will begin
next month, according to Radcliffe President Linda S. Wilson. The series,
"Voices of Public Intellectuals," is the newest addition to the
Radcliffe Seminars program, and consists of five Tuesday lectures starting
Oct. 13 and concluding Dec. 8.
Lectures will include, "Public Intellectuals in the Public Sector,"
by University of Illinois Professor Michael Bérubé; "Truthfulness
and Deceit in Public Life," by author and scholar Sissela Bok; "Journalism:
A Craft Under Fire," by former network television correspondent Marvin
Kalb; "Censorship, Unreason, and the Therapeutic Culture," by
Radcliffe Public Policy fellow Wendy Kaminer; and "Religion, Violence,
and Reconciliation," by Harvard Divinity School Professor Harvey Cox.
'With this new series, women and men will hear from some of today's leading
thinkers on the key issues confronting our society,' Wilson said.
Each lecture will take place at Radcliffe's Cronkhite Graduate Center
on Ash Street in Cambridge. Following the remarks of each lecturer, audience
members will have the opportunity to ask questions and offer their own insights
on the topic at hand. All lectures will take place at 6 p.m. except for
Bok's, which will take place at 4 p.m.
"A constructive and provocative dialogue about the complex issues
facing us today will help us tackle the daunting challenges of tomorrow,"
said Kalb, currently the director of the Shorenstein Center on the Press,
Politics and Public Policy at the Kennedy School of Government.
Those interested in attending the new lecture series can contact the
Radcliffe Seminars office at 495-8600 or via e-mail at seminars@radcliffe.edu.
