Radcliffe Conference on Women in Politics To Be Held This Week

Fifty women leaders, including a U.S. senator, a former governor, and a state treasurer, will convene at Radcliffe College for "Leadership 2000: Strategies for the Future," a national conference, to be held Nov. 6-9. The event, sponsored by the Women's Campaign Research Fund and the Radcliffe Public Policy Institute, is designed to provide nonpartisan training to current and aspiring women politicians.

Speakers include Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and former Texas Gov. Ann Richards. Topics of discussion include America's changing workplace, pensions and social security, women's health, and campaign finance reform.

"Leadership 2000 is an opportunity to have a bipartisan impact on the face of political leadership in this country," said Paula Rayman, director of the Radcliffe Public Policy Institute.

Today only 11 percent of the seats in Congress are filled by women; seven states have never elected a woman to Congress; and only three states have women governors.
