Faculty Council
The Faculty Council, at its fourth meeting of the year, considered a proposed Faculty of Arts and Sciences response to the draft Interim Report of the University Committee on Information Technology. Professor Paul C. Martin (Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences [DEAS]; and Physics), chair of the Standing Committees on Information Technology and on Research Policy; Professor Bertrand I. Halperin (Physics), chair of the Standing Committee on Professional Conduct; and Nancy L. Maull, administrative dean, joined the Council for this discussion. The Council also heard a report from Dean Harry Lewis (Harvard College and DEAS) on the current NCAA review (the NCAA Athletics Certification Self-Study). Dean Lewis, chair of the Faculty's Standing Committee on Athletic Sports, was joined by two members of the Committee, Nancy L. Maull; and Elizabeth S. Nathans, Dean of Freshmen. Also present were Dean Thomas A. Dingman (Harvard College); and Marlyn McGrath Lewis, director of admissions. Professor Christie McDonald (Romance Languages and vice chair of the Docket Committee) discussed with the Council the topics pending on the Council's agenda. The preliminary agenda deadline for the Nov. 18 Faculty Meeting is Nov. 3. The Council next meets on Nov. 12.
