Islamic Legal Studies student activity funds available Student organizations throughout Harvard University (graduate and undergraduate) are invited to submit funding proposals to the Islamic Legal Studies Program for activities at Harvard related to the Islamic world. There is no restriction as to the kind of activity that may be proposed, although projects that deal with legal phenomena in the Islamic world will receive preference. A wide range of funding requests will be considered, such as bringing a speaker to Harvard, setting up a study group, or organizing a film series, an art exhibit, or possibly a musical or cultural evening. Six to eight awards, varying in size between $300 to $500, will be distributed for the 1997-98 academic year. All activities must be open to the public, and the Islamic Legal Studies Program should be recognized as a supporter or co-sponsor. Lecture-luncheon on archaeology to be held "Archaeological Aspects of the Origin of Modern Humans: The Excavations of Qafzeh, Hayonim, and Kebara Caves" is a lecture to be given on Wednesday, Oct. 22, by Ofer Bar-Yosef, curator of Paleolithic archaeology. The lecture takes place at the Peabody Museum from noon to 2 p.m. and a luncheon is included Admission is $30; $25 for members. Medical School fellowships available Two fellowships at the Medical School provide funding to Medical School alumni and others. The Julia M. Moseley Fellowship provides funds for graduates of the Medical School for postdoctoral study in Europe. Fellowships are awarded for periods of no less than one year for research in the basic or clinical sciences. The Warren-Whitman-Richardson Fellowship is a research fellowship that is not restricted to alumni of the Harvard Medical School and does not require overseas travel. The award is directed toward M.D. scientists who require further training.
