  Preaching Convocation To Feature Rev. James A. Forbes Jr.

The Divinity School and the Memorial Church will sponsor a weeklong convocation on preaching from Sunday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 2, featuring the Rev. Dr. James A. Forbes Jr., senior minister at the Riverside Church in New York City and Luce Lecturer in Urban Ministry at the Divinity School. He is widely regarded as one of the country's great preachers.

The preaching convocation will take its theme, "Secure Enough to Risk Justice," from the title of the sermon the Rev. Forbes will preach at the Memorial Church on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. On Monday, Oct. 27, and Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m., the Rev. Forbes will deliver the 1997-98 William Belden Noble Lectures on "The Epidemic of Insecurity" and "The Security of Faith." The Noble Lectures were established at Harvard in 1898 by Nannie Yulee Noble to honor the memory of her husband.

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 12:15 p.m., the Rev. Claudia Highbaugh, chaplain and associate director of ministerial studies at the Divinity School, will preach at the Divinity School's weekly community worship service in the chapel of Andover Hall at 45 Francis Ave., followed by a preaching workshop with the Rev. Forbes from 1 to 3 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 30, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., a symposium on preaching sponsored by the Boston Theological Institute will be held in the Braun Room of Andover Hall. Panelists will include John Chryssavgis, professor of preaching at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline; Jeannette Normandin of the Jesuit Urban Center in Boston; and Haddon Robinson, professor of preaching at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass. At 7:30 p.m., the Rev. Charles. G. Adams, pastor of the Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit, Mich., will preach at First Parish, 3 Church Street, Cambridge.

On Friday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a series of worship services and workshops on preaching in the chapel and the Braun Room in Andover Hall led by the Rev. Barbara Brown Zikmund, president of Hartford Seminary; the Rev. Carl Scovel,

minister at King's Chapel in Boston; and the Rev. Charles G. Adams.

The preaching convocation will conclude with a service of worship in commemoration of All Saints and All Souls on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Church. The Rev. Peter J. Gomes, Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister in the Memorial Church, will preach on "Rest."
