Shue of Melrose Place To Visit KSG
Andrew Shue, founder of 'Do Something' and co-star of Fox TV's Melrose Place, will discuss "Media and Money: How to Support Young People's Involvement in Community Change" at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 15 at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. The event is open to members of the Harvard community. Shue's speech at the Kennedy School is part of a full day of activity in the Boston area designed to promote the work of Boston Do Something, one of four community-driven "local funds" affiliated with Do Something, Inc. A national nonprofit organization founded in 1993 by Shue, Do Something provides leadership training, guidance and financial resources to young leaders of all backgrounds who are engaged in the struggle to build and strengthen their communities. In addition to Boston, Do Something has partnered with communities to create local funds in Newark, N.J., and Washington, D.C. Built on the belief that young people have a tremendous amount of ideas, creativity, and energy to offer this city, Boston Do Something is an initiative that offers young people small grants (up to $500) and an intensive 15-week leadership training program to support them in tackling issues that affect them every day: problems such as racism, poor education, domestic violence and homelessness. In addition to his Kennedy School visit, Shue will visit students at Dorchester High School from 10:00-10:30 a.m. and attend a lunch at Artists for Humanity, sponsored by the Reebok Foundation, from 12:00-1:30 p.m.
