Physicist Glauber to receive German honorary degree

Roy J. Glauber, Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics, is to receive an honorary degree from Germany's Universität Essen-Gesamthocshule on June 12. He is being recognized for his contributions to the diffractive theory of high-energy collisions, to statistical physics, and to quantum optics. A symposium in Glauber's honor will also be held that day as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of Essen's expansion from a teachers' university to a general university. Glauber has been on the Harvard faculty since 1952.

Sophomore Phillips to read his poetry at student festival

Poet and sophomore Brian Phillips of Kirkland House will read his work during the Tenth Annual Greater Boston Intercollegiate Undergraduate Poetry Festival to be held on Monday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Suffolk University's C. Walsh Theatre, 55 Derne St., Beacon Hill.

Phillips will join students from 20 area colleges. This year's festival honors festival founder Louisa Solano of the Grolier Book Shop in Harvard Square.

A reception will follow the reading. The event is free and open to the public.

Marchetti to edit parents newsletter

John Marchetti, coordinator of undergraduate research programs in the Admissions and Financial Aid office, is the new editor of the Harvard-Radcliffe Parents Newsletter. He assumes the position in addition to his current job, which involves administering and promoting a variety of research programs while serving as a freshman adviser. Marchetti succeeds Deborah Kassman, director of stewardship in the University Development Office and editor of the Parents Newsletter for the past eight years.

A poetry reading by David Gewanter, director of writing programs in the Division of Continuing Education, and Steven Cramer, a contributor to The Harvard Review, will be held Friday, April 11, at 5:30 p.m. in the Forum Room at Lamont Library. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
