Presidents, Provost to hold office hours for students President Neil L. Rudenstine will hold office hours for students on Monday, Dec. 9, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in his Massachusetts Hall office. Provost Albert Carnesale will hold office hours for students on Monday, Dec. 16, from 4 to 5 p.m. in his Massachusetts Hall office. President Linda S. Wilson will hold office hours for students on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in her Fay House office. All hours are held on a first-come, first-served basis. Scheffler, of Education School, to be honored at book reception Israel Scheffler, Victor S. Thomas Professor of Education and Philosophy Emeritus and codirector of HGSE's Philosophy of Education Research Center, will be honored at a reception on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The occasion marks the publication of Reason and Education: Essays in Honor of Israel Scheffler. In a fitting tribute to the eminent philosopher of education, the book contains new, invited essays from 18 authors from around the world. Each essay discusses various aspects of Scheffler's philosophy of education, and is followed by a reply from Scheffler. The book has been issued by Kluwer Academic Publishers. FAS Administrative/Professional Staff Prize The FAS Administrative/Professional Staff Prize, founded in 1994 by a generous gift from a Harvard College alumnus and his wife, honors exempt staff members who have outstanding records of performance in their current jobs and who have made extraordinary contributions to the FAS above and beyond the immediate requirements of their position. The prize consists of $5,000, which must be used for travel, plus one month's paid leave from the University. For the past three years, there have been two winners honored annually. The prize will not be awarded this year, but rather will now be awarded every other year to up to four people. Nomination forms will be sent out next fall and winners will be announced in the spring of 1998. For more information, call FAS Personnel Services at 495-1592. Phillips Brooks House toy drive accepting donations Phillips Brooks House is accepting unwrapped toys, art supplies, and sports equipment for their annual Holiday Drive. Gifts can be dropped off to Michelle Douglas, director of programs, second floor, or call 496-8710. Toys will be accepted until Dec. 20; other items will be accepted indefinitely.
