Hastings Memorial Fund Established at Law School
The Robert P. Hastings Memorial Fund has been established at the Law School
in honor of Robert P. Hastings, Class of 1936, the late founding partner
of the Los Angeles law firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky, & Walker. Hastings
died at his home in Pasadena, Calif., on May 23, his 86th birthday.
Income from the fund will be used to provide grant assistance on the basis
of need to deserving Harvard Law School students. Financial aid award recipients
will be known as Robert P. Hastings Scholars.
"We are pleased to establish a permanent financial aid fund at the
Harvard Law School in the memory of Bob Hastings," said John S. McGeeney,
chair of Paul, Hastings. "Bob was always interested in young people
and disadvantaged students, and a tremendous supporter of educational institutions."
The fund is supported by a $100,000 gift from the law firm Paul, Hastings,
and is being augmented by gifts from family, friends, and colleagues of
Hastings.
Hastings, with fellow Harvard Law School graduates Lee Paul and Leonard
Janofsky, founded the law firm in 1951. It now has 450 lawyers and eight
offices throughout the United States and Japan.
Hastings was a vice chair, member, and honorary trustee of the board of
trustees of Harvey Mudd College of Science and Engineering; director and
president of Friends of Claremont Colleges; president and trustee of the
Thacher School; and member of the board of visitors of Stanford Law School.
